Two more Petland stores have closed--one in Springfield, MO (owned by Andrew Hunte's daughter--see info on Hunte below) and one in Austin, TX. The Austin store has been protested for over a year. Way to go fellow protesters!

Hunte & Petland (from Wikipedia)
The Hunte Corporation touts itself as the largest puppy dealer in the world, with sales in the United States, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Spain, and Japan. The company distributes animals through retail chains such as Petland.
According to a November 2007 article in the Tulsa World, the company buys and sells 90,000 puppies each year. Hunte is located in Goodman, Mo., just across the Oklahoma state line and buys and sells purebred puppies for markets in 30 states that include Ohio, Illinois and Florida.[13]

Hunte owned Petlands & other companies
Hunte's president Steve Rook is married to Andrew Hunte's daughter. The Hunte family own a diversified network of companies incorporated in Missouri under names like JessAnd (Jessica/Andrew) and JesStevAnd and JesSteve and own Petlands in Missouri and Kansas. [14]
Jessica (Hunte) Rook operates Petland franchises in Springfield, Independence and Joplin Missouri and Olathe, Kansas
Austin Petland:
Thanks to the devoted protesters of Austin, Petland in Georgetown has confirmed they are closing. I heard this through my sister who protests as often as possible... and they are ELATED. They will certainly be partying soon.
Here's what Protest Petland Austin posted on their Facebook:
"Really fantastic news! After more than a year of monthly protests at this location, Petland Georgetown is CLOSING! Our goal wasn't to close the store down but to put pressure on them to stop selling puppies. They chose otherwise, so good riddance! Now Georgetown needs to pass an ordinance to prevent any new puppy stores from opening!"
For more information and pictures of the STORE CLOSING signs see Protest Petland Austin on Facebook :)
And our peaceful protests against Lake St Louis, MO Petland continues every Sunday from 12 to 2. Please join us and/or spread the word. Be a voice for the dogs suffering in puppy mills.

If you want to shut down the entire Petland chain, you must attack and close down their main store in Chillicothe, Ohio. Either thru passing a city ordinance against the retail sale of puppies (i.e. Austin, Texas and elsewhere), or encourage PetSmart to open in Chillicothe. Either will force the closure of the Chillicothe Petland.
Petland uses their Chillicothe store to lure nieve potential franchisee's to invest and open a store. The fraudulent lure is the followoing: "If we can do over $3 Million dollars/year, in a small poor rural town with very poor demographics, imagine what you could do in New York, Boston ,Washington, etc. Except that their "system doesn"t work. If you can shut down the Chillicothe store, you will put the entire chain out of business in a very short time. Pass a city ordinance stopping the sale of puppies (as Austin, Texas did), or encourage PetSmart to open a superstore in Chillicothe. Either (or both) will destroy Petland.
