16 Year Old Dog Transformation Through Love Of Foster …...

“Bear” was abandoned, 16 years-old and on the brink of death. No one in their right mind would adopt him from a shelter. However, one family did. The results were amazing.
His fur was either matted or missing and he was just a skeleton of a dog. But thanks to a little food, grooming and (most importantly) love… Norman transformed into an entirely different dog.
Dog adoption not only saves lives, it makes them so much better. Please consider FOSTERING a dog !!! It is so rewarding !!!

Thanksgiving Can Be A Dangerous Holiday To Your Dog !!!

There's enough for people to worry about at Thanksgiving. "Oh no, not Aunt Edna's greasy gravy." "My brother's bragging is going to drive me to drink." "I can't believe I ate the whole thing." But we can't just think of ourselves over this food-focused holiday: We have to look after our best friends, too.
Dogs enjoy the revelry at least as much as humans, with bits of this and that dropping on the floor, and delectable smells wafting around the house. But Thanksgiving mustn't be a free-for-all. Just because we try to pack away all we can doesn't mean our dogs should. And there are certain items your dog really needs to avoid.
"Veterinarians experience an increased number of office calls due to digestive problems after the holidays because humans invite their animals to celebrate with high fat meals (ham, gravy, turkey skin), chocolates, bones , etc.," warns Casandria Smith, L.A. Animal Services Chief Veterinarian, in a PetFinder article.
Here are some tips that will help your dog get through Thanksgiving safely and with a smile on her snout.

Stuff Your Turkey, Not Your Dog

It's easy to want to give your dog a big fat bowl of turkey, mashed potatoes, and whatever else you think she might enjoy. But that's a bad idea. Overindulging in fatty foods can lead to an upset stomach, diarrhea, or a life-threatening condition called pancreatitis. A few strips of turkey on a dog's normal food is fine, but don't overdo it, no matter how she may plead with her "I'm STARVING" eyes. Keep in mind that turkey skin can wreak havoc with a dog's digestive system, so make sure she gets skinless, boneless turkey.

Stuff Your Dog's Kong, Not Your Dog

Here's a great way to keep your dog busy and happy during your meal. Put a bit of your dog's regular food in a Kong, and then stuff a little boneless turkey, sweet potatoes, gravy - just a tad, mind you - in the Kong. It's not much food, but it will keep him occupied for a long time.

Get Her Pooped

A dog who has been on a big walk or fetched the ball a zillion times will be much more likely to run out of energy during the feast than a dog who's been inside all day. A tired dog is a good dog on Thanksgiving. Make sure your pup gets plenty of exercise before the festivities begin.

Make No Bones About It

Cooked turkey bones can be a danger to your dog. They're sharp, and potentially very dangerous. You may not know a dog has a turkey bone lodged in your dog's digestive system for days. Don't leave plates with bones lying around. Ditto for the turkey carcass. Hungry dogs have been known to run off with the remains of a carved turkey. It can happen in the blink of an eye. You notice the turkey is gone. You notice the dog is gone. With luck, you find their hiding place before anything happens. Put plates in an unreachable area if you can't dispose of everything properly right away.

Know This Sage Wisdom

Sage and some other herbs have essential oils that can cause tummy upset and central nervous system depression if a dog eats them in large quantities. Most dogs aren't going to nosh on a fistful of sage, but keep herbs out of reach just in case. See: Poisonous Plants and Foods for Dogs.

Don't Cry Over Onions

Onions are toxic to dogs. They can lead to a dangerous form of anemia that may not be detected for days. Make sure your dog stays away from the pearly whites, and yellows, and reds. See: Poisonous Plants and Foods for Dogs.

Don't Give Her the Raw Deal

Unless your dog is already on a raw diet, we wouldn't recommend plopping a piece of raw turkey in her bowl (the change from her regular food might cause an upset stomach). But more importantly, keep your pup away from the uncooked dough for bread or rolls. What helps make dough rise? Heat. If a dog eats raw dough, what's it like for the dough in the dog's stomach? Warm. The dough rises in the dog's stomach, and if the dog has eaten enough, the swollen dough can cause pain, vomiting, and bloating -- conditions that can send you to the doggy ER on Thanksgiving.

Avoid Yappy Hour

Some dogs seem to enjoy alcoholic drinks. Walk away from your drink that's set on the coffee table, and Lulu may get lit. Dogs and booze are a bad mix. Your dog may not do anything embarrassing she'll regret in the morning, but she could become disoriented and quite ill. Too much alcohol can even lead to a coma, and death. Watch where you - and others - put their drinks, especially if you have a curious pup.
By following a few basic tips, your dog will enjoy a fun, safe Thanksgiving. Now if only you could avoid Aunt Edna's gravy ...

Dog Buried By Tornado….unbelievable !!!

After Dog Is Buried By Tornado, the Unbelievable Happens

Weather.com reports the amazing story of Jon Byler Dann and his family. After his home was demolished by the recent Tornado in Illinois, he was all but sure the family dog, Maggie, was dead. Jon even went so far as to post the sad news on Facebook, telling friends and family they had lost their beloved pet.
But a full 30 hours after the home was leveled, the unbelievable happened!
1
As family friend we’re still searching through the rubble, they heard a very faint bark. They immediately starting digging!
2
Amazingly, they uncovered Maggie who had been protected by a piece of carpet.
3
Maggie was alive!
5
The reunion between Jon and Maggie is absolutely heartwarming!

4
UPDATE: Weather.com reports that Maggie is doing well after receiving treatment for a dislocated hip. Doctors at the Teegarden Veterinary Clinic added that it appeared she would not need surgery.

Boy Naps Everyday WIth His Adopted Dog !!!

Boy and his dog's nap ritual is your aww-some moment of the day

Sleep alone? Theo don't do that. The first night the 7-week-old dog joined Jessica Shyba's family, he whined through the night in his crate so she caved and brought him to bed. But that was just the start. On his third day at home, the puppy fell asleep on Shyba's toddler son, Beau, as she rocked him at nap time. And so began what she calls "the most organic and beautiful friendship I have ever witnessed." Theo now meets mother and son every day at nap time, and by the time Beau nods off, Theo is ready to join him for a two-hour snooze. Because as these photos attest, sleep is always better with a buddy

Amazing Story Of Love By Family Dog

teacup great daneAfter a drunk driver plowed his pickup truck into Jeffrey Groat’s living room in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Thursday night, Groat was rushed to a hospital. His “teacup”Great Dane, Burke, ran off and disappeared.
Groat had been playing cards with Sherri Bloom and his 10-year-old daughter, with Burke nearby, when the truck barreled through the wall next to the front door, according to the Associated Press.
Trapped underneath the truck, Groat had to be removed by emergency personnel. He suffered cuts and cracked ribs. All three of the house occupants had to be hospitalized at Kootenai Health. Burke was also injured, but he bolted out through the hole left by the truck.
The driver of the truck, Thomas Scott Heinbaugh, ran off after the crash but was later arrested.
Groat constantly asked about Burke while he was in the hospital. “It was a big, big stress for him,” Brandi Bieber, a family friend, told the Coeur d’Alene Press.
A local resident reading about the accident in the Coeur d’Alene Press Saturday morning recognized Burke’s photo. In fact, on Thursday night, the Good Samaritan had seen Burke, who was not wearing a collar, limping outside the emergency room of Kootenai Health. The unidentified man took Burke home and was trying to find his owner.
“He’s (Burke) been hanging out in the guy’s living room,” Bieber told the Press. “They picked him up Thursday night near the emergency room. We think maybe the dog followed the ambulance and sounds of the sirens.”
Bieber, along with family and friends, brought Burke to the hospital for a surprise reunion with Groat.
“We kept it all very hush, hush,” she told the Press. “A nurse told Jeff she was taking him outside to get some fresh air.”
It was hard to tell who was happier to see the other. “Burke is younger and was really excited,” Bieber told the Press. “We had to keep him from jumping on Jeff because he wanted to play.”
Groat was released from the hospital on Saturday. His house, where he lives with Sherri Bloom and his 10-year old daughter, who were both also hospitalized, was so badly damaged that it has been condemned. To help cover the expenses of Groat and his family, a “Bloom and Groat Benefit Account” has been set up through Sterling Bank. Donations can be made at any of the bank’s branches.
Burke is not the only dog to have followed his pet parent to a hospital. In October 2012, a Husky named Zander crossed a busy highway and a stream in Long Island, N.Y., on his 2-mile journey to track down his dog dad John Dolan, who’d been hospitalized for a skin condition.
As with Burke, a Good Samaritan saw Zander standing outside the hospital, and called the number on his ID tag. It was the number of Dolan’s cell phone, which started ringing on the table next to his hospital bed.

Laughter Makes The Heart Happy ......

How Not To Buy A Puppy Mill Dog !!!

What can you do to help get rid of Puppy Mills in Missouri.

1.) DO NOT EVER BUY A PET FROM A PET STORE. You aren't saving the puppy but instead are condemning the parent ( breeding ) dogs to a life of sheer misery.

2.) Call your local shelter or rescue next time you are looking for a new pet for your family. 25% of the dogs in shelters are purebred and another 20% are puppies. If you like a certain breed then google that breed followed by the word rescue and the state you live in.

3.) If you choose to buy from a breeder NEVER MEET THEM SOMEWHERE OTHER than their breeding facility. They will tell you they have an appointment in between where both of you live or they want to save you driving all the way to their place. They only do this so you don't see how terrible they treat the parents dogs. DEMAND TO SEE WHERE THE PARENT DOGS LIVE AND HOW THEY ARE TREATED. Don't let them sell you puppies by only showing you the puppies and not the parents. Ask them how many breeding dogs ( I PERSONALLY WOULD NOT BUY FROM ANY BREEDER THAT HAS MORE THAN 10 BREEDING DOGS)  they have and if they sell to a broker or pet store (NO GOOD BREEDER WILL SELL TO A PET STORE OR USE A BROKER). There are many PUPPY MILLS IN MISSOURI with over 200 breeding dogs and some as many as a thousand breeding dogs.

4.) Email the Department of Agriculture and ask them to send you all the inspection reports on the breeder you are interested in. They will do this through the Missouri Sunshine Act and it may cost you $15.00 but it will show you all the violations the breeder may have against them.

Don't be a part of the problem but lets all help end MISSOURI BEING THE #1 WORST PUPPY MILL STATE IN THE NATION !!!

What To Do If Your Very Shy Dogs Gets Lost or Escapes.....

Black Dog Syndrome Begins At The Puppy Mill

Black Dog Syndrome Begins at the Puppy Mill
There's an unfortunate phenomena in the dog rescue/shelter world called Black Dog Syndrome. According to many shelter studies, black dogs are challenging to get adopted and are more likely to be euthanized in a kill shelter facility.

National Mill Dog Rescue has recently become aware of a new twist to this syndrome - the unfortunate reality for many black puppies born in puppy mills.  Apparently, it's becoming more and more common for the pet stores to refuse black puppies because they are more difficult to sell to the public. Since the pet stores won't order them, the puppy brokers refuse to purchase black puppies from the puppy mills.

With this in mind, it is becoming more and more common for breeders to automatically kill any black puppies born at their facility.  According to current standards, breeders can dispose of their unwanted 'livestock'.

Here at National Mill Dog Rescue it doesn't matter if a dog is young or old, healthy or sick, injured or disabled, black or white. Every dog we are able to rescue deserves a chance at a life outside of the cage.

Your support enables us to make these decisions for every dog regardless of their health, breed, age, or COLOR.  We can only rescue as many dogs as our funding allows. Please donate!
P.S.  I know of a Breeder that puts his Unwanted puppies in a FREEZER and kills them that way........righteous people alive and well everywhere!
