Tony LaRussa Joins Fight To Stop Puppy Mills In Missouri

KSDK -- Cardinals Manager Tony LaRussa has joined the fight to stop puppy mills in Missouri.

Missourians for the Protection of Dogs announced that LaRussa will be part of its Puppy Mill Reform Committee, which includes other prominent people from across the state.

The committee is charged with promoting a statewide ballot measure to address the problem of puppy mills in Missouri.

LaRussa is the co-founder of the Animal Rescue Foundation, which saves dogs and cats from public shelters and connects them with loving owners.

"Tens of thousands of dogs suffer in these facilities from inadequate shelter, lack of veterinary care, and harsh breeding conditions. As a member of the Puppy Mill Reform Committee, I support Missourians for the Protection of Dogs' efforts to improve the lives of dogs in Missouri's commercial breeding operations," LaRussa said.

Statistics show Missouri is home to an estimated 3,000 puppy mills, breeding hundreds of thousands of puppies, far more than any other state in the country.

Dogs in the mills are sometimes found in poor, cramped conditions and get little exercise or human interaction.

I am not a kennel owner but my question is "What does Tony LaRussa know about what a puppy mill is anyway?' I guess if you have a big name doing something that makes you an expert at anything and everything. Can I come and couch the Cardinals sometime? Right now maybe they could use some help or maybe you need to spend your time doing what you get paid for instead of poking your nose in things you know nothing about. The people you are hanging out with are up to no good and you are helping them. The state of Missouri has laws inplace to take care of what would be a true puppy mill not a kennel that is legally license by the state and federal government.
