Ask Your Representative to End Cosmetics Testing on Animals
Mar 11, 2014 • Action Alerts
Rep. Jim Moran from Virginia has introduced the Humane Cosmetics Act (H.R. 4148), a bill to end cosmetics testing on animals. If successful, the U.S. would join the E.U., Israel, Norway, and India where this inhumane and unscientific practice has already been banned.
Animal testing is unnecessary and unsafe. Far more accuratehuman-based cell and tissue testing methods exist, yet numerous companies continue to rely on status quo animal models that are not predictive of human response. More than 500 brands have been certified cruelty-free by Leaping Bunny (of which NEAVS is a founding member). It is time all companies become cruelty-free. The Humane Cosmetics Act would end U.S. animal-based testing within a year, and ban the import and sale of products tested on animals within three.

The Humane Cosmetics Act not only ends the needless suffering of millions of rabbits, mice, rats, guinea pigs, and other animals, it would benefit human health by ensuring safer products.
