If you ever find yourself in a position where you feel you can no longer take care of your pet:
Please try to find your pet a new home through your friends by sending out emails to all your friends and ask them to send it out to all of their friends, put a cute picture of your animal up on your facebook page with a detailed description of your animal and ask your friends to post it to their pages. Call your friends and ask if they know of anyone looking for a pet. Ask at your church and inquiry around to people you know. Most importantly screen the future adopter carefully and make sure you are placing your pet into a loving, forever home who will cherish them. Make sure you never place a pet without asking for their drivers license and taking a picture of it so you know who they are and asking questions like:
Where will your pet mostly live?
What are you looking for a pet for?
Are their other animals in this house?
How old are your children ? and how many ?
Do you regularly take your pet to a vet?
Will you give them heartworm medicine monthly and flea medicine ?
How often are you gone during the day and where will you keep your pet during this time?
This is just a few questions to begin the conversation to make sure they will be a safe and loving home for your pet. Please don't ever turn your dog over to animal control where they will be scared and frightened and run a risk of being put down. If your dog is black, older or large they can and do get put down often within a week of entering animal control or many shelters who have set euthanizing days. Whatever you do PLEASE DON'T put your pet on Craigslist or in the paper for FREE as you are setting them up for many horrible people who might sell them to labs for research (which does happen more than you can imagine) or worse put them in a puppy mill.
SO MANY PETS THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN END UP IN SHELTERS or worse END UP BEING EUTHANIZED !!!
