This month I wanted to share some recent successes from one of our biggest campaigns: Stop Puppy Mills. We’re tackling this problem from every angle -- on the ground, in Congress and state legislatures, and in the public sphere.
We’ve worked with local law enforcement to rescue thousands of dogs from cruel and inhumane breeding facilities. Just this month in Michigan, we helped rescue nearly 100 animals from a suspected puppy mill where the dogs were suffering from a multitude of untreated medical conditions.
Our work also takes us to Congress and to state legislatures across the country, where we fight to strengthen the laws that regulate breeders and pass new ones to help keep dogs safe. This month in Minnesota, governor Mark Dayton signed into law a bill that will subject breeders to new regulation that will help keep dogs safe.
And of course, we're always working to promote awareness about puppy mills, to help people make more humane choices when it comes to adding a dog to their families. Our recent “101 Puppy Mills” report documented problem puppy mills across the country, and last year’s report (“A Horrible Hundred”) included 15 facilities that have now been shut down.
We have to fight this problem on every front if we want to eradicate puppy mills for good. And it’s because of you that we can keep on fighting.
With gratitude,
