Puppies Found In A Box On Side of Road With Momma Dog Scratching The Box

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. — Imagine driving down the street and seeing a dog on the side of the road sitting next to a box. While some drivers probably wouldn’t think to stop and investigate, thankfully one good Samaritan did and discovered precious cargo: Four puppies and their mother.
The pups are only a couple of weeks old, but these sweet babies have already fought hard for their lives.
Hours before mama and the pups arrived at Crain Veterinary Center, the little family was found freezing on the side of the road. The puppies were stuffed in a box and taped closed.
“Four feet long and a foot deep, so not huge, but that was probably a good thing. They were packed in there keeping each other warm,” said Erin Morse of Midwest Animal ResQ.
A good Samaritan discovered the animals in Boonville Mo., about 100 miles east of Kansas City, and contacted the Midwest Animal ResQ for help. Morse answered the call.
“Who is going to say no to these little faces, especially on a day as cold? I can’t imagine them lasting very long in there at all,” said Morse.
The pups were then transported to Kansas City and into the care of veterinarian Susan Schatz.
“People just don’t know what to do and they just drop them off or set them somewhere where someone might find them because they don’t know what to do with them,” said Schatz.
It’s going to be a long road to recovery. The pups are suffering from mites and a skin infection, but should be better in no time.
