You can help put an end to puppy mills: Urge Congress to enact the PUPS Act

Dear Friends,

Did you know that there’s a huge loophole that allows some of the worst puppy mills to operate with absolutely no federal oversight or regulation? Under the current Animal Welfare Act, commercial dog breeders only have to be federally licensed and inspected if they sell wholesale to pet shops or brokers. If they sell puppies directly to the public through classified ads, the Internet, or other means, they can operate virtually under the radar and don’t even have to provide minimal standards of care for their dogs.

Fortunately, this could be the year that something is done to close the loophole that allows thousands of puppy mills to go unregulated. The Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety (PUPS) Act has just been reintroduced in Congress, and your help is needed to make sure that this critical piece of legislation is finally enacted.

The PUPS Act will require all high-volume commercial dog breeders to be licensed and inspected, and to comply with the basic standards of care required by the Animal Welfare Act. It will crack down on the worst offenders who hide behind websites. In addition, it will require much-needed daily exercise for dogs in puppy mills.

With just a few clicks, you can do your part to help hundreds of thousands of puppy mill dogs throughout the U.S. Click here to take action now.

Thank you for all you do for animals.

Warmest regards,
