Prince William And Soccer Star David Beckham Unite For Wildlife #WhoseSideAreYouOn

David Beckham

Prince William just recently launched the ‘United for Wildlife’ Campaign in London, England. With soccer legend David Beckham by his side, the campaign aims to protect animals against poachers and the illegal wildlife trade. Everyday the beautiful creatures of the wild are hunted and used for trade. These animals should be running free in the wild and not used for poachers benefits!

“Our children should not live in a world without elephants, tigers, lions and rhinos. Enough is enough. It is time to choose between critically endangered species and the criminals who kill them for money,” Said Prince William, who established the United for Wildlife group. The prince has a point! This type of trade is known to occur in numerous countries around the world and there hasn’t been much to stop it!

The cold hard facts weigh in! More than 22,000 elephants were killed in 2012 for their ivory and tiger numbers have plunged by more than 97% in the last century. There have even been over 500 cases of rhino poaching last year! That’s no way to treat the animals that roam our planet. We need to keep in mind that the more demand shrinks for these items, poaching will decrease. (Fashion icons should especially pay attention to this!)

The #WhoseSideAreYouOn campaign will focus on using sports as a means to engage people across the nation in the fight against illegal wildlife trade. The hash tag alone promotes awareness on popular social media networks such as Twitter and Face book! Numerous stars including rugby world cup winner Francois Pienaar and basketball star Yao Ming also support the campaign. Celebrities care about the animals!

David Beckham, holding the position as lead ambassador, said he was “passionate” about the overall cause. “It really is devastating and we are in a world where our generation and the younger generation can make a difference and we need to do it now,” he said. “Are we on the side of the criminals or are we on the side of the animals?” We’re on the side of animals of course!

Prince William and David Beckham are not asking for money in order to support the campaign! Instead, they want your voices! By using the #WhoseSideAreYouOn hash tag you can join the movement on Twitter and Face book. To further support wildlife check out the World Wildlife Fund Defenders Of Wildlife, and theWildlife Conservation Society. You too can make a difference in illegal wildlife poaching!
