Building a NO KILL Community

"Mom" just got done reading Redemption which is a fascinating book that travels through the history of Humane Society and discusses his opinion on how they could improve with suggestions and hope that they will start having more and more NO KILL shelters and stop blaming the public on why so many dogs are killed in shelters. Most of the time 70% of the dogs entering shelters will be killed. Our family has been foster parents at a local shelter and I have to admit I've seen their receptionist treat people entering their shelter like they are a nuisance. I have been saddened at the lack of compassionate animal loving people who try to help families pick out a pet that would fit into their families. I do agree with him that many shelters have bad attitudes towards the general public when in reality if the director of the facility would take a NO KILL approach they could prevent the 70% of animals coming into shelters from being killed by working with and encouraging volunteers more, better PR and marketing for their shelter, encouraging fostering animals for them, spay and neutering program etc.... I have seen several shelters in my area that have immensely improved the attitude and look of their shelters. We are starting to foster for a NO KILL shelter within 8 miles of us that is a fabulous shelter. My hope is that more and more shelters will get rid of the old school of thought directors and hire in new energetic and NO KILL philosophy directors.
Come to the seminar that has been called "a prerequisite for rescue groups and organizations that are serious about changing their communities to No Kill.”

Mary Jo, I'm so glad you were impacted by the book the way I was.

He presents so many facts that have not been effectively refuted by the people who continue to advocate killing dogs who deserve loving families.

The more the public buys into the idea of the possibility of No Kill the sooner it will be a reality.
