I know this is not close by to us in the midwest but my hometown is 30 minutes away from this rescue called "Safe dogs by the river" in Albertville, Alabama (its around 3 hours south of Nashville, Tennessee and is in Northern Alabama). The lady that runs the rescue probably has contacts that would be willing to meet for transport pickup (they are desperate to find these babies homes by March 10th-when the property is being auctioned) - if anyone is interested they should contact her via the craigslist ad. All of the listings are under Pets section on Huntsville, Alabama Craigslist. If you or your rescue can help please contact Safe Dogs By the River there website is http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/AL210.html. Please if you are interested in helping this rescue email them at safedogsbytheriver@yahoo.com
"Safe Dogs By The River has been foreclosed on. The rescue property is being auctioned on March 10th. We desperately need to find homes or other rescues to take the few remaining dogs we have in need. Thank you. Safe Dogs By The River does not adopt dogs to outdoor only homes, nor do we endorse this practice. We believe a dog is a family member and should live indoors with they're humans. Indoor dogs make better watch dogs, are better able to alert to intruders and are capable of actually doing something heroic in the face of an emergency. All companions from Safe Dogs By The River have an adoption fee. All companions are spayed or neutered, unless age or health prevents this (in these rare cases we will have them altered at a later date), HW or FeLV/FIV tested and vaccinated. If we did not have these fees, we would not be able to help the next animal that comes along. Please help us to continue helping the animals we have in our care. Wherever possible companions have basic house manners, house training, crate training and any behavioral issues are addressed. Safe Dogs By The River will disclose, to the best of our ability, any and all health or behavior issues, if known. We do our best to test or check for any issues prior to placing companions up for adoption."
http://huntsville.craigslist.org/pet/1055031526.html This is Spike. He is a 9 month Cattle Dog mix that hobbled up one day. He has not been vetted yet, but he will be prior to going to his new home. Spike has several things that make him special. First to notice is his deformed leg. We don't know if he was born that way (possible club foot) or injured, but he has no idea he is different. He needs training, he is still mouthy to people and dogs. Picture of Spike: http://s9.photobucket.com/albums/a56/TheDogWoman/Companions%20Seeking%20Forever%20Homes/?action=view¤t=Spike-laying.jpg
http://huntsville.craigslist.org/pet/1055026038.htmlThis is Loosey. She is a 2 year old Shar Pei Lab mix. She is spayed, vaccinated, HW negative and healthy. She is eager to please and learns really fast. She is usually the star of obedience classes. She is crate trained, housebroken and has good manners. She will chew her toys if they are available, or other things if they are accessible too! Loosey is good with most dogs, but insecure dogs can turn her into a bully. She plays well with confident, well behaved dogs. She does not bother sedentary cats. http://huntsville.craigslist.org/pet/1055018355.html This is Claude. He is a lab mix, about 2 years old, neutered, vaccinated, HW negative and healthy. Claude is crate trained, housebroken and has good house manners. Claude has gone through a basic obedience class and should go on to the next stage of learning - follow up classes to reinforce everything he learned, to bond with new family members and to be sure everyone is speaking the same language. Claude should be the only dog or with a large female that is not dominant. he does not go after other dogs, but he will react poorly if challenged - and he is a big dog that can and will hurt another dog if put into a situation where that can happen. He should not live with cats and he is too big for young children. http://huntsville.craigslist.org/pet/1055009478.html This is Zeke. He is a 18 month old Catahoula mix. He is stunningly beautiful - with a yellow brindle coat. He is neutered, vaccinated, HW negative and really healthy. Zeke is a mellow kind of guy that is patiently awaiting his forever home. He will need some basic training, as he has lived outdoors where he was dumped for most of his life. He responds very well to positive training and will make anyone very proud. He does have issues with food and other dogs, he will need to be fed in a different area and given treats that cannot be eaten immediately (like bones or pig ears) in a different area too. Picture of Zeke: http://s9.photobucket.com/albums/a56/TheDogWoman/Companions%20Seeking%20Forever%20Homes/?action=view¤t=Zeke2.jpg
http://huntsville.craigslist.org/pet/1055004936.html This is Pea Pie. He is a 9 month old Catahoula mix. He is neutered, vaccinated, HW negative and in great health. He loves to ride in the car and hang out with people. He is a typical adolescent dog in need of training. He is SO sweet and eager to please. He responds well to positive training and really wants to learn all kinds of new things. Picture of Pea Pie: http://s9.photobucket.com/albums/a56/TheDogWoman/Companions%20Seeking%20Forever%20Homes/?action=view¤t=PeaPis2.jpg.
